School Council

School Advisory Council

As school resumes and activities are returning to the school, we are excited about being able to host an in-person School Advisory Council. The purpose of the School Advisory Council is to be a forum for parents/guardians to contribute to improving student achievement and school performance.It is advisory in nature.

Our first meeting will be on September 27 from 5:30 to 6:30 in our Learning Commons. We are looking for volunteers to sit on the council and are in need of executive members for the following positions which will be discussed and voted on during this first meeting: Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary.

The role of the chair is:

• Arrange meeting dates in conjunction with council and principal
• Prepare agenda prioritizing items of importance with the principal
• Present the Chair Report
• Ensure accurate minutes are taken
• Follow-up with any action that is required
• Sit as ex-officio of all committees established by the Council
• Facilitate conflict resolution
• Communicate with the principal regarding Council concerns
• Direct concerns of members to the right channel
• Participate in additional duties established by DSBN or the Ministry of Education ie. a potential ARC Committee Member
• Must be a parent member, and not an employee of DSBN

The role of the Vice-Chair is:

• Supports Chair
• Acts in their absence

The role of the Secretary is:

• Takes minutes of meetings
• Types and sends to the chair and principal within 1 week of the meeting
